I was born in Naples… No, I was born on the Vomero, the plow shaped hill that overlooks Partenope. Up to my teenage, Vomero satisfied all my needs, and I could neglect the wonderful, violent city that laid at my feet. But life has it’s bends, as the roads that crawl up the hill, and the straightest way to ask forgiveness to the beautiful Mermaid, was to stalk the endless stairs of Petraio, silent at night. I made these drawings in 1985, in my “half punk” period. If you ever plan a visit to Naples, you can stay at B&B “La Pedamentina”. It’s another historic stairway, so bring confortable shoes. What follows is a one page synopsis of “ZYMACHI, in the Land of Living Machines”, an animation I’m working on. Enjoy. Professor Kerenskij loses control over a secret Soviet biotechnology lab directed for years. New leadership, a Chinese Multinational, wants him to cooperate with Miss Hu, a Quantum Chip expert. The two scientists harshfully acquaintance during the spectacular close encounter between Earth and a dwarf planet, Nestis, inhabited by microscopic beings. The aliens, who call themselves Cycledwellers, are scattered all over the world, and infect, among others, Professor Kerenskij. Back to the lab, the two scientists work jointly at the true goal of the Chinese: Zymachi, nanorobots designed for genetic therapy. The aliens, that communicate telepathically, exploit Professor’s body as if it were a mine, and sabotage Zymachi, sensed as a menace. In order to protect them, Kerenskij injects Zymachi in his blood stream, but loses contact. The nano machines, incompletely coded, mutate, and form an alliance with Proteena, an outcast alien scientist. Thanks to Proteena, Zymachi guide the immune system against the invaders. A double dialogue is established, on one side Zymachi and Poteena, that recounts the myths and decadence of her people; on the other Kerenskij and the alien telepaths, withdrawn in Professor’s brain to escape immune system. In the middle stands Doctor Hu, assisting infected Professor while attempting to contact Zymachi. Although all kind of malicious attacks arranged by the invaders to weaken Kerenskij’s defenses, contact is established, and Zymachi deliver to humans the alien genetic code, while replicating on Proteena’s body one of the myths of the Cycledwellers: the shift from one sex to the other. This intimate journey will help her to understand the real causes of alien decadence. But there’s no time to sit back, Hu has to sedate Kerenskij, turned into a puppet by the telepaths, and places in his skull a probe that attracts the Zymachi. A ferocious battle takes place, at the end of wich an artifact brain cancer is destroyed. Harangued by Proteena, aliens recognize that the “Mine” is in fact a sentient being. Emerged from sedation, Professor perceives a wider picture: planet Nestis is in itself a living creature, and Cycledwellers work as it’s unconscious brain. Thanks to Zymachi a first contact between two species has been established, it’s time to harvest its fruits. Link to this article

Quella che segue è una sinossi di una animazione su cui sto lavorando: “ZYMACHI, nella Terra delle Macchine Viventi”. Buon divertimento! Il prof. Kerenskij perde il controllo sul laboratorio segreto di biotecnologia da lui diretto per anni. Il nuovo padrone, una multinazionale cinese, vuole affiancargli la dott.ssa Hu, esperta in processori quantistici. I due si incontrano e si scontrano durante lo spettacolare passaggio di un planetoide che sfiora la stratosfera. All’insaputa di tutti, il planetoide è abitato da microscopici alieni telepatici, che si sparpagliano sulla terra infettando, tra gli altri, il prof. Kerenskij. Tornati al laboratorio, i due scienziati lavorano assieme al vero obbiettivo dei cinesi: gli Zymachi, nanoscopici robot progettati per la terapia genetica. Gli alieni, che intanto sfruttano il corpo del professore come fosse una miniera, vedono negli Zymachi una minaccia e cercano di sabotarli. Accortosi del tentativo, il professore si inietta gli Zymachi nel flusso sanguigno fidando nel suo sistema immunitario, ma ne perde il contatto. Le nano macchine, dalla programmazione incompleta, mutano e si alleano con Proteena, una scienziata aliena reietta, che li induce ad istruire il sistema immunitario del professore per combattere gli invasori. Si instaura così un doppio dialogo: da un lato gli Zymachi e Proteena, che racconta miti e decadenza della sua stirpe, dall’altro il professore e gli alieni telepatici, insediatisi nel suo cervello per sfuggire al sistema immunitario. Al centro la dott.ssa Hu, che assiste il professore e cerca di ricontattare gli Zymachi perduti, impresa che gli riesce nonostante i ripetuti attacchi degli alieni, che utilizzano ogni mezzo (virus, tumori) per annientare le difese del professore. Ristabilito il contatto, le nano macchine forniscono agli umani il codice genetico degli alieni, ed intanto mettono in pratica sul corpo di Proteena uno dei miti della sua stirpe: la trasmutazione dei sessi (sei, per la precisione). Questo viaggio interiore l’aiuterà a capire le ragioni profonde della decadenza aliena. Ma non c’è un attimo da perdere: la dottoressa deve sedare Kerenskij, divenuto ormai un fantoccio nelle mani dei telepati, e gli pianta nel cervello devastato dal tumore una sonda che richiama gli Zymachi. Si scatena così una battaglia campale che porterà alla distruzione del tumore ed al ravvedimento degli alieni, che riconoscono nella “miniera” un essere senziente. Riemerso dal coma, è il professore ad avere un quadro completo della situazione: il planetoide stesso è un essere vivente, di cui gli alieni non sono altro che il cervello inconsapevole. Grazie agli Zymachi un primo contatto tra specie diverse è stato stabilito, è ora di metterlo a frutto. Link to this article

Nel 2010, fresco di iscrizione alla FIDAL, ho corso la mia prima mezza maratona, la Roma Ostia. Tempo non esaltante (1h54′), ma grande soddisfazione. Le vignette descrivono gli attimi prima della partenza. – In 2010 I ran my first half marathon, the Roma Ostia. Timing wasn’t spectacular (1h54′), despite of satisfaction.
